Red Mountain Energy and Secure Energy coal gasification project

Secure Energy Inc. and Red Mountain Energy Corp. offer a modular Coal Gasification Plan with a proven process to produce clean Syngas. In Decatur, Illinois, Secure Energy will further refine the clean Syngas into pipeline quality synthetic natural gas (methane). Other projects could use the Secure Energy/Red Mountain Energy design to produce clean Syngas for the production of methanol, fertilizers, gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, natural gas or other high value products.

Red Mountain Energy is a supplier of two 48,000 Nm3/hr Air Separation Units (ASUs) to provide gaseous Oxygen to the gasifiers. Liquid argon will also be produced from the ASUs and sold to various consumers.

Coal gasification Project in Decatur, Illinois

As shown in the diagram above, the syngas produced from coal is treated to remove impurities and then sent to a methanation unit for conversion to methane. The methane is refined and pressurized to meet pipeline quality requirements.

Natural gas will be transported and sold through the interstate pipeline system. The commercial by-products of this Coal Gasification Plant are argon, sulfur and slag.

The Secure Energy Decatur Gasification Plant is a coal to pipeline quality synthetic natural gas conversion facility planned for an existing industrial site in Decatur, Illinois. The plant will convert up to 1.4 million tons per year of high-sulfur Illinois coal into over 20 billion cubic feet of pipeline quality natural gas.

CO2

The plant will produce about 2 million Tons of CO2/year at its design capacity. This is much less CO2 than would be produced from a coal-fueled power plant using an equal amount of coal. The concentrated stream of CO2 produced from a coal-to-natural gas process lends itself to the capture and storage of CO2, in other words - CO2 emissions from the plant are "carbon capture ready."

By-products

Slag. Gasifiers slag is typically sold as filler for roadbed construction or as a component for roofing materials. Ground granulated slag is also used in concrete in combination with cement as part of blended cement. The plant produces about 350 TPD of slag.

Sulfur. Sulfur commercial uses are primarily in fertilizers, but it is also widely used in gunpowder, matches, insecticides and fungicides. The plant produces about 140 TPD of sulfur.

Argon. Argon is present in the amount of 0.93% by volume of air. Argon is drawn out of the ASUs and purified and offered for sale. Argon is used in many industries, but is primarily used as inert gas shield during welding. The plant produces about 130 TPD of argon.
