The American based Corporation, Red Mountain Energy, has become the main sponsor of the Wild Line expedition to ascend and descend one of the highest mountains of the Pamirs, Muztagh Ata (7546 meters).

Access to the mountain runs through the territory of Kyrgyzstan, a former Soviet Republic and today part of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the CIS. Members of the Wild Line expedition face a daunting task: having reached the summit of Muztagh Ata they make their descent using speed riders, a combination of paraplane and parachute, which enables them to descent the mountain on skis or on a snowboard while gliding above the ricks.

Taking part in the expedition which started on July 7th are two world renowned alpinists and parachutists, one woman, one man: Cyrilde Pinard and Francois Bon. Cyrilde Pinard, the 2010 French ladies speed riding champion, has been training hard in France on the slopes of Chamonix which lies in the shadow of Mont Blanc. Cyrilde is expected to become the first woman speed rider to conquer Muztagh Ata, but this is not uppermost on her mind. First and foremost Cyrilde is looking forward to the unforgettable adrenaline experience of 80 km/h during the descent. Francois Bon is the French Speed Flying Pro Les Arcs 2009 champion. His athletic achievements were recognized by the National Geographic Society with an award in the Adrenaline category in 2008. The extreme sportsman confessed that gliding above the rocky range with its glacial brows is a gripping experience.

For the two team members its a tough daily grind as they ascend the slopes in sub-zero temperature and bitter wind, carrying their skis on their backs. However, Cyrilde and Francois treated themselves to one day off: July 14, Bastille Day and the main French national holiday, which they celebrated in their tent 5000 meters above the sea level, on the slopes of the 'ice-mountain-father', as the natives call Muztagh Ata.

Denis Smyslov, CEO of Red Mountain Energy, explains his interest and involvement in the expedition: Speed riding is a new technology, and, as with all sports, its all about managing energy in an efficient way. And its open to women as much as to men. In fact, Cyrildes participation in this expedition is proof of a new confidence, in sport and in life, felt by women in todays modern world. Also, the choice of venue is key: the descent takes places from one of the highest mountains in the CIS, a reflection of Red Mountain Energys stated mission: to introduce new technologies to members of the CIS. We like to think that Red Mountain is synonymous with drive and energy .

CEO Denis Smyslov has a personal interest: not only is he keen on rock-climbing, alpinism and speed riding, he also feels there is a serious lesson to be learnt: Francois Bon and Cyrilde Pinard are sportsmen who have been living and working in Chamonix without boasting of their achievements, but passing on their skills and experience to others. It is symbolical for me as well: it is about time Russia moves from the Courchevel model based on excessive consumption and self-glorification without any attempt at self-improvement or self-development, to the Chamonix model which is based on drive, dedication, real results and achievement.

Red Mountain Energy Corporation puts into operation two integrated AJAX motor compressors at the Lyubeshov gas field in the Ukraine.

US based Red Mountain Energy Corporation has put into operation two motor-driven AJAX compressors, manufactured by the Cameron Compression Systems, at the compressor station in Lyubeshov, which is located in the south of the Lvov region in the Ukraine.

The commissioning and start up of the compressors was the final stage in the construction of a gas compression facility, which will help increase natural gas production at the Lyubeshov gas field (from 10 to 170 thousand cubic meters per day).

The compressors direct the gas from the wells into the Dashava-Pukenichi gas pipeline which transports the gas to local customers in the Ukraine, and also further afield to European customers. The gas is also stored underground.

In February 2010, the Red Mountain Energy Corp. delivered 16 compressor units to Ukrgazdobycha, a subsidiary of Naftogaz, the Ukrainian state gas company. The equipment will be installed at the booster compressor stations located at the gas fields in the Lvov, Poltava and Kharkov Regions.

Scheduled for 2010, the commissioning of the compressor units will increase the Ukraines annual gas output by 900 million cubic meters. The compressor units are intended for the production and transportation of raw natural gas and they are fuelled by pumped gas.

Thanks to the Ajax compressors, the gas flow rate and pressure are kept constant as the gas enters the pipeline.

Red Mountain Energy Corporation staged a cultural event called The Energy of Art as part of the annual NEFTEGAS 2010 Exhibition.

Red Mountain Energy held The Energy of Art party at Soho Rooms in Moscow. Guests included leading global players of the oil and gas market who had come to the 2010 NEFTEGAS Exhibition, and it is hoped the event will become an annual fixture.

The event was supported by the Roza Azora Gallery and by the famous sculptor Georgy Frangulyan, an Honored Artist of Russia. Georgy Frangulyan numbers among his works sculptures of Bulat Okudzhava in Moscow, the Empress Yelizaveta Petrovna in Baltiisk, the sculpture of Peter the Great in Antwerp, and a bronze bark with the figures of Dante and Vergil in the waters of the Venetian Lagoon.

Moscow is waiting for his statue of the poet Joseph Brodsky, which is to be erected in a small square on the Novinsky Boulevard, inside the Moscow Garden Ring Road. The poets full length figure was cast a few years ago but is still standing in Frangulyans studio. The city has agreed only to pay for the general landscaping of the square, leaving the sculptor to bear the brunt of the costs. Red Mountain Energy will sponsor the landscaping of the specific area where the statue will be erected. In their speeches at this important cultural event the party organizers drew parallels between the energy generated by art and the energy generated by oil and gas. Denis Smyslov, President of Red Mountain Energy, stated 5 megajoule of energy are required to produce one kilo of apples, of this the energy of a human being accounts for only 30 per cent, while the other 70 per cent comes from natural resources. Now 20 per cent of an apple eaten by an artist nourishes the brain activity. Therefore, from this we can deduce that all poetic stanzas, all paintings and pieces of music contain barrels of oil and cubic meters of gas. The artist transforms this energy into the highest form of creative activity which warms the heart and enlightens the souls of so many, including the men and women who produce oil and gas.

At The Energy of Art the poetry of Derzhavin, Severyanin, and Mayakovsky were read aloud. The Jukebox Vocal Trio entertained the public with an astonishing display of vocal virtuosity, not only singing but vocally imitating an entire band, when in fact not a single instrument was played. Three young musicians masterfully remixed intricate versions of world famous hits armed with their voices only. And the group Bravo, veterans of Russian pop, provided the perfect mix of nostalgia and positive energy, entirely fitting for this very special occasion.

"Ukrainian Gas: The Long Term Outlook.

Mark GROMOV : a special report for Profile

Energy security is a strategic issue for the Ukraine, as it is for many other countries. Ukrgasproduction, a subsidiary of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine has just purchased of 16 Ajax compressors from US based Red Mountain Energy Corporation, for the sum of US$26,380,000; this is a clear indication that the Ukrainian government is moving towards energy independence, which, so it hopes, will provide greater economic and political stability.

Red Mountain Energy has already installed Ajax units in the Lvov, Poltava and Kharkov regions, with the result that the Ukraine has been able to raise its natural gas production by 900 million cubic meters per annum.

In particular, an Ajax compressor was installed in Magdanilovski District in the Dnepropetrovsk region last autumn with the result that gas output increased by one million cubic meters per month. Throughout the winter gas was supplied to the residents of the Novomoskovski and Magdalinovski districts and even to the Dnepropetrovsk area on the left bank of the Dnepr. Without Ajax the situation would have been much worse because last year approximately 60% of the gas reserves had been extracted and the pressure had dropped dramatically, in some gas wells by as much as 300%. A total of 11 Ajax compressors have been put into operation in the Ukraine by Red Mountain Energy in the last four years.

It is this sort of co-operation which, so experts believe, will fulfill the main objective of the Ukrainian gas industry: to re-activate low pressure stripped wells and to produce gas. Such high-tech equipment is the only viable option. There are no real rivals in this field: unlike Ajax, alternative compressors need expensive maintenance and are dependent on power supplies and weather conditions. Furthermore, the payback period is much longer. Ajax compressors run on transferred gas and local control systems make the units fully independent. The commissioning and start-up procedures take approximately one month. The financial rate of return is remarkable: the original investment is paid back in approximately five months. If maintained properly, the unit may remain in good working condition for up to 30 years.

Rashid Baddaoui, Director of Red Mountain Energy Services, said that "The Ukraine intends to bring stripped wells back into operation, and these are the majority of gas wells in the country. We have the experience and the technology, and we can also provide the training. Our policy is to create joint ventures with local partners, including coal and gas producing companies. However, I would like to draw your attention to another exciting area of future co-operation between Red Mountain Energy and the Ukrainian people, and private Ukrainian gas producing companies: the de-gassing of coal beds and the extraction of coal bed methane (CBM) . The Ukraine has considerable coal bed methane reserves - the 8th largest in the world. CBM extraction is one of the most important business activities of Red Mountain Energy and we anticipate huge growth in CBM extraction and production in the future.

Red Mountain Energy has 35 years experience in CBM and the Ukraine should take the American companys offer seriously and act on it. Our public authorities ought to be interested in this proposal because almost all accidents in Ukrainian mines are caused by methane explosions, and these accidents not only cause a tragic loss of life but they also undermine efforts to develop the Ukraines mining industry. Let us hope that the new President-Elect, Victor Yanukovich, who was born in Donbass and is familiar with the mining industry and its problems, will address the issue of degassing. Coal bed methane extraction and production greatly increases the safety in coal mines, as well as the profitability of the mine, and will also reduce the damaging environmental impact of methane released into the atmosphere. Coal bed methane production is an important mining technology in the United States. The annual output is approximately 40 bln cubic meters, or 7-8% of the total natural gas output of the country. Commercial coal bed methane production has been started in Kuzbass in order to meet the gas needs of the region.

Rashid Baddaoui: "Degassing is expensive; but this is not a reason to reject it. If the Ukraine can establish greater economic and political stability, then foreign investment will follow, but foreign investors will demand state of- the -art and safe technology in the oil and gas and mining industries.
