Sour gas reinjection

Since demand for sulfur is negligible and sulfur recovery facilities are fairly expensive and not easy to operate, Red Mountain Energy suggests re-injecting sour gases into subsurface formations rather than using them to recover the sulfur. This alternative involves much lower capital and operating costs.

The sour gas compressors commonly used in gas processing plants are those which:

• Develop the injection pressure which exceeds the formation pressure (up to 200-300 bar and higher);
• Are made of special materials according to NACE MR0175 (Sulfide Stress Corrosion Cracking Resistant Metallic Materials for Oil Field Equipment);
• Are equipped with air cooled heat exchangers, interstage pipelines and scrubbers made of 316SS;
• Can incorporate after the second or the third compression stage additional dehydration of the sour gas.
