Gas processing plants
Red Mountain Energy Corporation has designed a modular gas processing plant, which, owing to its modular structure, can cater for a wide variety of gases, depending on the their composition.
Each plant can be designed for various gas processing capacities, using different gas treatment techniques.
Each plant can be operated at ambient temperatures between -60°С and +45°С.
The plant delivery package includes: compressors, towers, heat exchangers, tanks and vessels, electrical cabinets and other hardware components, as well as automated control systems.
The type of gas processing plant (and its module structure) depends on the gas composition. Natural gas and associated petroleum gas coming from the field contains contaminants, e.g. solid particles (sand and scale), heavy hydrocarbon condensate, water vapor and often hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, and mercaptans. These contaminants have to be extracted from the treated gas.
Solid particles contained in the gas inevitably lead to wear and a deterioration of the compressor parts. Solid particles clog and damage gas pipeline valves and control devices; they accumulate in the pipeline and choke it.
Liquid particles which settle in the lower sections of the pipeline also cause choking as well as corrosive damage to the pipeline, the valves and the control devices.
Moisture, under certain conditions, can cause the formation of hydrates in the pipeline in the form of solid crystals. Hydrate accumulations can block the pipeline completely.
Hydrogen sulfide is a very harmful impurity. When the hydrogen sulfide content of the air in the working site exceeds 0,01 mg per 1 l, it is toxic. In the commercial applications of gases, the presence of hydrogen sulfide in the gases inevitably means a deterioration in the quality of the products. In a moist surrounding, hydrogen sulfide becomes an active corroding agent and leads to the severe corrosion of metals.
Carbon dioxide is unwelcome as it reduces the calorific value of the gas.
Before entering the trunk pipeline the gas must be dehydrated and cleansed of harmful contaminants.
